THE RASCAL

Where Endurance Races with Innovation.

The name 'Rascal' perfectly captures the spirit of our new dinghy. It’s all about Endurance and Adventure, with a healthy dose of speed.

Endurance racing is core to The Performance Marine Group, which owns Olympic Class Dinghy manufacturer PSA and the 54Knots.com UIM racing team. Our dinghies have helped athletes win gold medals, and with six world endurance powerboat records to our name, our team has extensive experience in all the ocean and weather conditions the sea can challenge us with.

Dinghy Design for Endurance and Adventure

Rascal is the start of a new era in dinghy sailing and its name reflects its core values: Endurance and Adventure, complemented by inherent speed and cutting-edge innovation.

Endurance and Safety Features

Endurance is defined as the ability or strength to continue or last, even in the face of fatigue, stress, or adverse conditions such as challenging weather or open water. As endurance events and extreme sports become increasingly popular, and athletes pursue new challenges against the elements, Rascal offers a unique platform and experience, prioritising safety above all else.

As an endurance race dinghy, Rascal is out to compete and test dinghy sailing at entirely new levels.
As an adventure dinghy, throw in your tent provisions and even a fishing rod and head off to explore.

Design and Equipment

Rascal is similar to a Laser in looks, but that is where the similarities end. The entire dinghy is manufactured from carbon fibre, utilising a vacuum manufacturing process that delivers unparalleled strength with the added benefit of being weight-saving.

Rascals' patent-pending carbon fibre mast and boom support a unique reefing sail that takes less than 20 seconds to operate.

Integrated Safety Systems

Each dinghy is equipped with comprehensive safety equipment, including:

  • EPIRB
  • Storage for flares
  • VHF radio
  • Water and nutrition storage
  • Mast lighting
  • Mast head radar deflector

When participating in an endurance race a solar-powered satellite tracking system from Iridium, transmitting the vessel's location every 10 minutes, anywhere in the world is installed on the bow.

Real-World Tough Testing

In September 2024, Dan Lenard, a member of the 54Knots endurance team, sailed solo and non-stop for five days in the Adriatic Sea using the prototype Rascal, covering 220 nautical miles. This extensive test, which included capsize situations, allowed the team to finalise the safety systems and optimise operating locations within the dinghy. In August 2025, he is repeating the exercise before the launch of Rascal in September 2025 at the Southampton Boat Show.
