Rascal – how the reefing system works
Rigging the lines
- Attach the luff reef line using the captive shackle to the loop on the luff.
- Attach the leech reef line from the end of the boom in the block on the leech from the starboard side down through the adjustable webbing loop half way down around the boom from the starboard side around the boom clockwise, then around the line and put a fisherman’s bend or bowline to secure.
- Ease the outhaul a little to prevent the mast loops jamming on the mast preventing the sail from lowering.
- Release the mainsheet.
- Release the vang.
- Release the main halyard and allow it to drop to the black ball stopper. (You need to position this ball to the correct position for reef halyard height)
- Tension the luff reef line firmly.
- Pull the leech reef line firmly and cleat off.
- Sheet in the main.
- Firm up the vang to your desired position.
- Tension the luff reef line again to your preferred tension.
- Tighten up the outhaul if needed to tidy up the foot of the sail.
Note all the folds should remain on the Starboard side of the boom if practical.
